Section 3: Supplemental (Non-Vancany Specific) Recruitment Activities Undertaken

Time Period Covered: December 2, 2007 to December 1, 2008

Stations in Employment Unit: WOOF(AM) and WOOF-FM

1.                  Local Mentoring Programs.

For years WOOF has been delighted to work with Girls Inc. of Dothan, an organization dedicated to “empowering girls to become strong, smart and bold and in turn the girls become productive, intelligent, and confident young women.  They focus on equipping young women with the skills they will need to thrive and succeed in the world.”   Their Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work day program is one of their programs used to equip their girls for the future.  WOOF is proud to participate.  On Thursday April 24th, 2008 Brittany Logan mentored with us.  The day started with a 7:45am breakfast meeting at the Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center where Brittany and WOOF’s GM Leigh Simpson met for the first time.  Upon arrival at the station Leigh gave Brittany an overall tour of our facility and then Brittany was mentored in several areas of broadcasting.  News anchor Deborah Pearson shared with her the skills she uses in producing a newscast.  Together they produced a story on Brittany’s mentoring experience at WOOF that was used on the afternoon news.  Midday on-air personality Rick Patrick shared with her the everyday operations of an on-air shift, even having Brittany help with the weather and a promo.  Finally John Houston, Amy D. and Laura Pate demonstrated all the aspects of the production department.  All in all it was a wonderful day.  Whether or not Brittany decides to pursue a career in the electronic media, only time will tell but we sure enjoyed sharing our careers with her.

Deborah Pearson has been a proud news anchor/producer with WOOF for 16 years.  Deborah is even more proud to be a member of Dothan Community Church.  A part of her giving to her church is sharing her career knowledge by running their audio department.  She also gives selflessly by working with teens.  I’ve observed over the years her incredible gift of connecting with the young people as she has mentored so many times.  On July 10, 2008 Deborah mentored 2 teenage girls who were visiting her church, Beth Mason age 16 and Rachel Phillips age 16.  She introduced them to the news department, the production department and our on-air personality Julie Jacobs (who started off at WOOF in broadcasting through a mentoring program in October and November 2003).  They really enjoyed being on the radio.  After introducing the girls to the world of radio Deborah introduced them to another member of the electronic media family, TV, by taking them to WTVY TV Channel 4 where Deborah’s good friend news anchor Reginald Jones gave them a tour of his television station.  There is no way to predict the future but judging by the incredible enthusiasm of these two young ladies for our careers it would be quite probable that at least one of them will end up with a career in the electronic media!

2.                  Career/Job Fair participation.

Valentine’s Day 2008 Career Fair

The job fair was held on 2-14-2008 from 9a-12n in Malone Hall at Troy University-Dothan.

John Houston represented On-air and Production.  Deborah Pearson represented News.  Hal Edwards represented Sales and Management.  Through this career fair we received 9 resumes and 2 applications.

Dothan Community Job Fair

The job fair on October 9, 2008 was held from 1p-4p at the Dothan Civic

Center.  We pre-promoted on air with 132-:30 recorded announcements as

well as with a 2 hour live remote broadcast.

Julie Jacobs was there as a representative of on-air and production and Brad

Bailey was there on behalf of WOOF as a representative of our sales

Department and part-time on-air.  Thousands of job seekers attended the

event.  As a result of our participation we received 33 applications for future

                   job openings at WOOF.

3.         Tours of Broadcast Facilities.

Throughout the year we conduct numerous tours of our facility and explain what careers are available in broadcasting.  Those who participate in our tours are Scouts, clubs, individuals and schools.  An example of a scheduled school tour: On October 15, 2008 WOOF welcomed 19 students and 4 teachers to spend 2 hours at our studios where we shared with them the production department, the news department and the on-air studio.  They loved the on-air studio the best!

4.                            On-going Internship Program.

In May 2007 Rehobeth High School student Rachel Hannon began her on-going internship at WOOF.  She has learned about the on-air, sales, traffic, promotional, mascotting, public service, remotes, clerical and news aspects of broadcasting.  She now is a board operator, a fill-in receptionist and mascot at WOOF.  It has truly been a joy for the entire WOOF family to have Rachel as part of our radio family.

 5.          On Air employment outreach.

On air EEO statement and invitation to file an application with WOOF Inc. for

Future employment with our company, professionally voiced by our station

Imaging Person, Randy Reeves, aired 824 times.

6.          Annual listing in nationwide publication

Annually WOOF lists employment opportunities with our company in the

Southern Christian Leadership Conference’s publications at least once per year.

This year we chose to participate in the April/May/June 2008 Spring Memorial

       Issue of the national magazine.

7.    Our websites, woofradio.com and 997wooffm.com.

At all times other than during specific opening hiring periods we post our EEO

Statement and invitation to submit and application with WOOF Inc. to have on

File for future employment opportunities with our company.  We also post the

gender and racial composition of our staff.  We are very proud of our diversity

and we feel this would be a very attractive reason for job seekers to want to be a

a part of our staff in the future.

“WOOF Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate in the hiring, training or promotion of employees by reason of age, race, color, religion, sex or national origin.  Employment openings are rare here at WOOF but we do encourage those interested in a career opportunity with our company to file an application with us to have on file in case of a future opening.  Applications can be made in person at our studios located at 2518 Columbia Highway in Dothan or by mailing applications and resumes to WOOF Inc. / P.O. Box 1427 / Dothan, AL/ 36302.  For more information please feel free to call us at 334-792-1149.”
